An iPhone survives after a year spent in a lake

It is common knowledge that iPhone and water rarely combine. Apart from the recent iPhone 7, whose waterproofing is certified by Apple, it is better to leave our smartphones away from liquid bodies to avoid catastrophe. Yet the story of a fisherman in Pennsylvania, in the United States, lying all statistics after his iPhone 4 was found functional after spending a year at the bottom of a lake.
It was during the winter of 2015 that Michael Guntrum lost his iPhone while fishing on Kyle Lake. The smartphone began its descent to the bottom of the water point, and its owner had no choice but to buy a new one. Last October, the Kyle Lake was cleaned and many items were recovered, including the underwater phone. It is another local resident, Daniel Kalgren, who got his hands on the smartphone. Curious, he decides to clean it, to dry it, and after a few days, he connects it to his computer. Surprise: The phone is quite damaged, but it turns on and works, after almost a year spent under water.
"I was able to open it and retrieve the owner's phone number," explains the discoverer. "It is that I have it, and I will send it to him by the post soon". Apple obviously did not fail to boast of the prowess of its smartphone: "It's always incredible, all iPhone stories that survive the extreme conditions that our customers share with us." But the strength of the smartphone would not be the only one involved in this miracle: the iPhone that was recovered was indeed well embedded in a shell thick enough OtterBox that, if it did not officially guarantee its waterproofing, certainly played a role In the survival of the device.
