When you plug a USB key or external hard drive to a USB 3.0 port and you try to access it from a virtual machine, you receive a Windows error message. To activate support for USB 3.0 in a virtual machine, you must install the Extension Pack for Oracle.
1-Visit the site and download the Oracle VirtualBox Extension Pack.
2-Open the pack, which launches VirtualBox
3-Click File and Settings.
4-Click Extensions.
5-Click the Add new extension.
6-Select the file you downloaded from the website of Oracle and validate.
7-Click Install.
8-Go to the bottom of the page and click I agree.
9-The pack is installed. Confirm twice with OK.
10-Click the virtual machine you want to use a USB 3.0 device and click Configure.
11-Click on the USB section.
12-Then select the option Controller 3.0 (xHCI). Press OK.
13-Now you can use a USB key or hard drive connected to a USB 3.0 port.
14-They are recognized by your virtual machine.
